Why do we decorate?
- It is part of the liturgy
- It enhances the spiritual dimension of the faithful
- It adds beauty to the Mass
- It is a bit like changing the scenery for a play and it helps to set the mood for the celebration.
When do we decorate?
The Committee decorates the Basilica of Our Lady for the following seasons and feast days:
- Holy Week – Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday
- Easter Sunday
- Thanksgiving
- Remembrance Day
- Feast of Christ the King
- Advent and Christmas
The time commitment would be a couple of hours on the days leading up to the celebration. We can always use help to put things away once the celebration is over.
We meet once or twice a year to plan for the larger celebrations of Christmas and Easter. You are welcome to come to the meetings, but most of our members are happy to come and help out on the day of the decorating.
